Japan Bank for International Cooperation eyes new projects in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan and Japan discussed issues of joint investments in national gas industry through cooperation with Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Trend reports with reference to Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a meeting with Japanese delegation led by Hiroyuki Tsubai, President of Itochu corporation and Chairman of Turkmen-Japanese Committee for Economic Cooperation.

Japan delegation proposed to discuss possibilities of realization of current and new joint projects in Turkmenistan, having highlighted existing premises for future expansion of cooperation in gas and chemicals industry, pharmaceutical industry and electricity. Both parties pointed out high level of cooperation in trade and economic sphere.

Furthermore, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan also held a meeting between Raşit Meredow, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vice Prime Minister of Turkmenistan and Yoshihiko Isozaki, Japan Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Parties noted mutual interest in further expansion of cooperation in a number of spheres, including energy as a priority.

Eight documents were signed by the governmental delegation of Turkmenistan during the working visit to Japan in October last year. They cover new joint projects, including the construction of ammonia and urea production plants, natural gas processing and gasoline production, a workshop for phosphate fertilizer production, as well as partnership with Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), and supply of the earthmoving machinery of Komatsu company and Toyota cars to Turkmenistan.

Japan has already realized a number of major projects in Turkmenistan. They include construction of ammonia and urea plants in the city of Mary, industrial complexes in the Balkan Region for polyethylene production at the Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries, urea fertilizers in Garabogaz city, and polyethylene and polypropylene production plant in Kiyanly settlement.

Recently, the first plant in the world to produce synthetic fuel from natural gas on an industrial scale was put into operation in Ahal province. Japan party participated in the construction of the plant and in financing the project..
