The project of construction a railway to the Kutaisi airport will be completed in 2020, said the head of the Roads Department of Georgia Irakli Karseladze, Trend reports with reference to bm.ge.

“In this case, we are talking about the existing station, which is located near the airport. The completion of this project is planned by 2020,” Karseladze said.

The railway project, which was first announced in 2016 by former Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, is still not completed. In 2019 it was revealed that the new railway station to Kutaisi International Airport will not be built, but it is planned to rehabilitate the existing one.

The construction of a 3-kilometer railway section in Kutaisi began in April 2017.

Kutaisi International Airport also known as David the Builder Kutaisi International Airport is an airport located 14 km west of Kutaisi, the third largest city in Georgia, legislative capital of Georgia and capital of the western region of Imereti.

It is one of three international airports currently in operation in Georgia, along with Tbilisi International Airport serving the Georgian capital and Batumi International Airport near the Adjara Black Sea resort.
