Tehran, Iran, Sept.18

Trend:

Germany, Britain and France seek to make INSTEX operational, but this requires time, said Head of German-Iranian Chamber of Commerce (AHK Iran) Dagmar von Bohnstein, Trend reports citing ILNA.

As reported, new Chairman of INSTEX Michael Erhard Bock visited Tehran to discuss the implementation of the instrument with senior Iranian officials. Within the visit, he also met with Dagmar von Bohnstein.

"The meeting was constructive, Bock’s visit to Iran shows that Europe is serious about making INSTEX operational. We also discussed the needs and problems of member companies of AHK Iran," she said.

"It was important for the INSTEX chairman to hear the voice of Iran's private sector. He was optimistic about future and his meeting at the Chamber of Commerce was productive," she noted.

More than 2,400 private companies are members of the German-Iranian Chamber of Commerce, and the volume of Iran and Germany trade has increased during June and July this year.

The Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX) is a European special-purpose vehicle established in January 2019 by France, Germany and the UK to facilitate non-dollar trade with Iran in a bid to bypass US sanctions. So far, INSTEX has not become operational despite intense efforts on all sides.
