Car production volumes grow in Azerbaijan in 9 months of 2019

Some 1,688 cars were produced in Azerbaijan in the first nine months of 2019, which is 3.7 times more than the amount produced during the same period of last year, Trend reports referring to the Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee.
According to the committee, the total value of cars, trailers and semi-trailers produced in Azerbaijan amounted to 74.5 million manat ($43.823 million), which indicates a decrease of 34.5 percent compared to the same period of 2018.
Some 24,088 passenger cars worth almost 335 million manat ($197.059 million) in total were imported into the country .
The imports also included 2,262 trucks worth 36.2 million manat ($21.294 million), having increased by 1.7 and 1.7 times respectively, and 246 buses worth almost 27.6 million manat ($16.235 million) having increased by 2.5 and 4.7 times, respectively.
A new automobile plant producing cars under the "Khazar" brand was commissioned in Neftchala district of Azerbaijan in 2018, which contributed to a significant increase in passenger car production in the country.
Before that, there were two automobile plants operating in Azerbaijan. These are the Nakhchivan Automobile Plant, where Lifan cars are assembled, and the Ganja Automobile Plant, where tractors, agricultural machinery, and a number of trucks of Belarusian and Russian companies are produced.
Another automobile factory of the Russian GAZ Group is planned to be built in late 2019 in the Hajigabul Industrial Zone.
According to the government forecasts, the value of production of cars will amount to 56 million manats in 2020, 85.3 million manats in 2021, and 113.3 million manats in 2022.
In quantitative terms, the country plans to gradually increase the production of cars to 7,000 units per year. Starting from 2020, their volumes will increase significantly to 2,000 units, and will reach 3,500 units in 2021, 5,300 units in 2022, and 7,000 vehicles in 2023.
