American Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan - AmCham Azerbaijan submitted recommendatory documents to the corresponding state bodies, a source AmCham Azerbaijan told Trend.
“The documents contain the observations and feedback of members of the Chamber on the development of various sectors of the country's economy to support the measures being taken in the country on the initiative of the Azerbaijani president for the development of the economy and private business,” the source said.
“Among them are positional documents drawn up by the Chamber on various topics,” the source said. “Two new documents were prepared on the positions, including the proposals for improving the laws on public procurement and on the protection of personal data.”
The document on improving the law on public procurement includes suggestions to address the issues faced by both organizations-buyers and sellers, making public procurement, the source added.
“Among the proposals are ensuring participation in the procurement process in tenders on a voluntary basis, changing the restrictions and deadlines established by law, eliminating shortcomings in the evaluation process of tender proposals, as well as contradictions and clarifications in the current legislation,” the source said.
“The document on using the EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) in Azerbaijan also includes proposals,” the source said. “Given the wide digitalization of public services in Azerbaijan and taking the relevant EU rules as an example, it is necessary to revise the legislation on personal data.”
“This need arises from the fact that the countries having trade relations with the EU and rendering services to its members are using the GDPR regulation, which is also important for the development of commerce of Azerbaijan, which has trade relations with the EU countries,” the source said.
“The application of these principles in Azerbaijan is very important in terms of using the resources of national data centers at the international level and attracting users from abroad,” the source said.
The corresponding positional document includes the recommendations on the development of a roadmap on the application of the principles of compliance with the GDPR and the introduction of appropriate amendments to the Azerbaijani legislation "On personal data", said the source.
