Service sector of Uzbekistan continues its dynamic development

As of April 1, 2020, the proportion of enterprises and organizations engaged in the service sector of Uzbekistan reached 65.7 percent, industry - 17.7 percent, construction - nine percent, and agriculture, forestry and fisheries - 7.6 percent, Trend reports citing the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

In the structure of existing enterprises and organizations related to the service sector, the predominant share engaged in trade activities (39.8 percent). The number of operating enterprises and organizations providing accommodation and catering services was 9.9 percent.

The share of operating enterprises and organizations involved in transportation and storage services in their total number reached 5.8 percent. The share of operating enterprises and organizations engaged in information activities and providing communication services is three percent.

In the total number of enterprises and organizations providing services, small businesses accounted for 77.3 percent.

As of 1 April 2020, the share of large organizations reached 22.7 percent. 

According to preliminary data, the volume of rendered market services in January-March 2020 reached 50.3 trillion soum ($4.9 billion), the nominal volume of which increased by 9.1 trillion soum ($893.3 million). Compared to the same period last year, the growth rate made up 9.9 percent.

The development of the service sector plays a huge role in the modern economy. Today, the service sector is one of the most dynamically developing sectors of the Uzbek economy.

The dynamic development of services sector as a large-scale sector of the country's economy, capable of meeting the growing needs of individuals and legal entities for services, is impossible without the successful functioning of this industry in the regions, the report said.

The share of Tashkent, the capital, in the total volume of services is the most significant - 34.4 percent. This is due to the fact that real incomes of the population here are higher than in other regions.

The lowest indicators of the service sector are observed in Syrdarya (1.4 percent), Jizzak (2.2 percent), Navoi (2.6 percent), Khorezm (three percent) regions and Karakalpakstan (three percent).
