Iran's Bazargan border customs resume work, for now with limits

The Bazargan customs on Iran's border with Turkey (called Gurbulak in Turkey) has started to operate, for now in a limited way, said the spokesman for Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Ruhollah Latifi, Trend reports citing IRICA.

According to Latifi, it was agreed at a meeting between the Director General of Iran's Bazargan Customs Office and the Director General of Turkey's Gurbulak Customs Office, to daily allow 60 trucks with watermelons, dates, kiwis and other products to pass through, with Iranian exports to Turkey.

The official said that 20 Turkish trucks crossed the border customs in one hour today and the process continues.

Latifi said that according to the discussions, all trucks passing through Turkey will pass through a special tunnel created for disinfection, and drivers will be issued a health certificate.

Iran continues to monitor the coronavirus situation in the country. According to recent reports from the Iranian officials, over 99,900 people have been infected 6,340 people have already died. Meanwhile, over 80,400 have reportedly recovered from the disease.

The country continues to apply strict measures to contain the further spread. Reportedly, the disease was brought to Iran by a businessman from Iran's Qom city, who went on a business trip to China, despite official warnings. The man died later from the disease.

The Islamic Republic only announced its first infections and deaths from the coronavirus on Feb. 19.

Due to the spread of the coronavirus in Iran, a number of countries have imposed restrictions on the borders with Iran.
