Trade holds leading position in service sector of Uzbekistan

According to the results of the four months of 2020, in the structure of existing enterprises and organizations related to the service sector (277,615 units), the major share (40.1 percent) accounts for trade enterprises, Trend reports citing the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

The number of operating enterprises and organizations providing accommodation and catering services stood at 9.7 percent.

Official statistics recorded that the proportion of operating enterprises and organizations involved in transportation and storage reached 5.7 percent.

The share of operating enterprises and organizations engaged in information activities and providing communication services is equal to three percent.

The number of enterprises and organizations providing services in the sphere of health care and social security made up three percent of the total number of enterprises and organizations operating in the service sector.

As of May 1, 2019, 238,500 enterprises and organizations were operating in the service sector. In their overall structure, trade services accounted for 36.3 percent, accommodation and meals for 9.5 percent, transportation and storage for 6.1 percent, information and communications for three percent, health care and social services for three percent and other services for 42.1 percent.

As the State Statistics Committee noted, in structure of the rendered market services by kinds of economic activities, transport services occupy the greatest specific weight. Thus, in the period from January through April 2020, their share made up 25.3 percent. At the same time, high rates were observed in trade services (24.7 percent), financial services (22.9 percent), and communication and information services (6.3 percent).

"The services sector includes various activities that help improve the quality of work and increase production efficiency. It covers international corporations, banks, airlines, computer centers, telecommunications, insurance, legal and consulting firms, state and non-state structures, as well as non-profit organizations," the message said.
