Iran reveals fisher products exported from Hormozgan Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 20

About 70,000 tons of fishery products worth $130 million were exported from Hormozgan province in southern Iran in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), said Abdurrasul Daryayi, Director of the Fisheries Organization of Hormozgan Province, Trend reports citing IRNA.

According to Daryayi, exports of fishery sector’s products in the province increased by 21 percent compared to the preceding year (from March 21, 2018 to March 21, 2019).

Daryayi added that cutlassfish, shrimp, squid and certain types of fish (not permitted for eating in Iran due to Islamic laws) are the most exported fishery sector’s products.

The official said that the fishery sector’s products were mainly exported to United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, Ukraine, Great Britain and France.

“Currently, there are 83 enterprises in the area of processing, canning and other fisheries in Hormozgan province. These enterprises employ 3,160 people,” he said.

Daryayi said that export development is one of the important priorities. That is why the Hormozgan Fisheries Organization, in cooperation with private sector investors, is focusing on the development of this sector.
