Iran announces number of dams under construction

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26

Some 190 dams with a capacity of 48.4 billion cubic meters are currently under construction analysis in Iran, Trend reports citing Ministry of Energy of Iran.

According to the report, 90 dams with a capacity of 29.7 bcm are being analyzed, while 100 dams with some 18.7 bcm of capacity are under construction.

According to the report, among the analyzed dams, 31 are in the Caspian Sea, 52 in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, 5 in the Central Plateau, and 2 in the Tejen (Herirud) River.

As far as construction goes, 31 dams are around the Caspian Sea, 3 around Lake Urmia, 54 in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, 9 in the Central Plateau, 1 on the Tejen River and 2 on the Hamun Lake.

"The 183 dams with a capacity of 52.4 billion cubic meters have been commissioned in Iran as of the beginning of this year (March 20, 2020)," the report said.

“Of the 183 dams commissioned, 52 are around the Caspian Sea, 12 around Lake Urmia, 68 around the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, 34 in the Central Plateau, 11 in the Tejen River and 6 in the Hamun Lake,” the report noted.
