TEHRAN, Iran, June 6

Trend:

Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development has allowed the establishment of holdings for rental apartments, as the government tries to take control over the rental housing market, said deputy minister Mahmoud Mahmoudzadeh, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"The established rental holdings can rent large amount of apartments," said Mahmoudzadeh.

"It's natural that these holding companies would act based on certain framework in terms of prices, so they wouldn't be able to set prices themselves," he said.

"The government would provide incentives to these holdings, including providing land so they would invest and build houses," Mahmoudzadeh added.

"The holdings should invest in housing and can also provide services to low income class," he said.

"We seek to create positive effect and balance in the market while traditional owners that rent houses would remain on the market as well," Mahmoudzadeh said.

"The rental housing market should be balanced by tax incentives," he added.

"Establishment of a professional rental system would create transparency in terms of individuals that own large number of houses. The system would register the empty housing units and implement taxes to control the housing market," Mahmoudzadeh said.
