About 80 percent of the price of the wheat purchased in Iran has been paid to farmers so far, said Mohammad Taghi Tabatabaee, head of public relations department of Government Trading Corporation of Iran, Trend reports citing the corporation's website.
According to Tabatabaee, in total, more than 2.7 million tons of wheat worth 66.9 trillion rials (about $1.59 billion) have been purchased from farmers to date.
Tabatabaee added that 12.4 trillion rials (about $296 million) remain to be paid to farmers.
The official said that so far, 208,000 tons of rapeseed have been purchased from farmers in Iran.
The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set between 25,000 rials (about 59 cents) and 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram of durum wheat in the current Iranian year. A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products, are purchased from farmers by the state company under a guarantee in Iran.
