Georgia sees increase in total amount of country's FDIs

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 20

Foreign direct investments (FDI) in Georgia amounted to $1.31 billion in 2019, up by 0.3 percent from 2018, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

As reported, the share of the three largest investor countries in the total volume of foreign direct investments reached 41.6 percent in 2019.

Share of FDI by major foreign direct investor countries allocated as follows: United Kingdom (18 percent), Turkey (13.4 percent) and Ireland (10.2 percent).

In turn, the share of FDI by three major economic sectors reached 50.4 percent in 2019. The largest share of FDI was allocated in financial sector, totaling $272.1 million. The energy industry was the second with $261.6 million, followed by the transports and communications sector with $126.8 million.

Foreign direct investments increased by 174 percent and amounted to $207 million in Georgia's Adjara in 2019 compared to the preceding year.

In 2018, foreign direct investments (FDI) in Adjara region amounted to $75.5 million.

The share of Adjara region in the total amount of the country's FDIs in 2019 amounted to 16.3 percent.
