By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Georgia has exported 4,466 tons of hazelnuts this year as of September 24, which is a 74 percent increase compared to the same period of last year, Trend reports via the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia.

The top ten countries for Georgian hazelnuts exports by volume are Germany (1,392.9 tons), Italy (808.8 tons), Czechia (280.3 tons), Russia (268 tons), Poland (192 tons), Spain (165 tons), Lithuania (143.7 tons), France (125 tons), Belarus (102.5 tons).

Georgian hazelnuts are also exported to Ukraine (83.7 tons), Brazil (74 tons), Mexico (53 tons), Greece (34.7 tons), Austria (22 tons), Estonia (22 tons), UK (22 tons), Latvia (21 tons).

About 50,000 tonnes of high-quality hazelnuts are expected to be harvested in Georgia this year, announces the Ministry of Agriculture.

The ministry said that farmers are expecting an exceptionally high-quality harvest thanks to the Georgia Hazelnut Improvement Project that was launched in 2019.

The goal of the program was to improve the quality of Georgian hazelnuts as the nut is the largest agricultural export of Georgia by value and supports the livelihoods of more than 50,000 growers and processors.
