US hopes to expand co-op with Turkmenistan through different dialogues

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 28

The United States is looking forward to expanding cooperation with Turkmenistan through bilateral and trilateral dialogues, the C5+1 diplomatic platform, and deepening economic, educational, and interpersonal ties, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenportal information portal.

"At a time when the international community is facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we remain firmly committed to supporting the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Turkmenistan," Pompeo said.

Earlier, the delegation of Turkmenistan held a meeting with US Secretary of state Michael Pompeo. During the meeting, the sides discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as regional issues of mutual interest.

The US administration supports regional gas pipeline projects from Turkmenistan, such as TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) and the TRANS-Caspian through Azerbaijan and Turkey to Europe.

Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the United States were established on February 19, 1992.
