Apple exports from Georgia exceed last year's figures

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 9

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

According to the latest data, more than 3,000 tons of apples worth $1.3 million have been exported from Georgia this year, Trend reports via the Georgian Ministry of Agriculture.

Apple exports this year are 8 times higher than last year's figures for the same period, and their value has increased by $1.1 million.

Apple orchards were planted on 1,128 hectares throughout Georgia as part of the "Plant the Future" state program.

The apples were shipped to Russia (2,894 tons), Kazakhstan (75 tons), Singapore and Hong Kong.

A large apple harvest is expected in Georgia this year - more than 120,000 tons, mainly in the Shida Kartli region.

State co-financing amounted to more than 9 million lari (about $ 3 million).

To facilitate the export of fruits, the necessary documentation is prepared and issued in a "single window" mode. Representatives of phytosanitary and customs services are involved in the process.

A working group has been created in the ministry, which is actively working in the field of searching and collecting information, systematizing, connecting farmers and distributors.
