Trend:

Wine production in Azerbaijan is slowing down, Chairman of the Wine Producers and Exporters Association of Azerbaijan Elchin Madatov told Trend.

According to Madatov, production is currently carried out at a reduced pace. However, despite the fact that public catering facilities have not yet returned to full work, there is a slight revival in production.

The chairman said that about 10-12 million bottles are sold annually within the country, that is, an average of one million bottles per month.

If, in the first six months of 2020, the decline in this industry was 64 percent, then according to the results of nine months of this year, the decline was about 50 percent, he noted.

“Some enterprises have redesigned, switching to the production of medical alcohol, disinfecting alcohol-containing liquids. However, this mostly applies to enterprises producing strong alcohol,” the chairman emphasized.

In 2019, a record grape crop was harvested in Azerbaijan - just over 190,000 tons, which is 30 percent more compared to 2018, Madatov stressed.

The main exporters of Azerbaijani wine products are Shaki Winery, Jalilabad Winery, Ganja Winery, Goygol Winery, as well as a number of private companies engaged in the production of alcoholic beverages.
