Fars Province in southern Iran has attracted more than $466 million foreign investment during the first six months of the current Iranian year (started March 20, 2020) and ranked the first destination for foreign investment in the country, said the manager of the investment office in Fars Governorate.
"Fars Province attracted $466 million foreign investment while Khuzestan and Yazd province stood in second and third ranks by attracting $365 million and $346 million," said Haleh Fouladfar, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"The industrial sector in Fars Province has operated 785 industrial projects by $6.4 billion investment since 2018 that created jobs for 1,927 individuals, The statistics indicate foreign investment in Fars Province during recent years had positive growth despite sanction and in past four years $1.8 billion invested in the province while the foreign investment in last Iranian year (started March 21, 2019) was $181 million that was doubled compare to 2018," she added.
According to reports the unemployment rate has declined in the province since 2012 and dropped from 16 percent to 8 percent in 2019.
"The private sector and foreign investment have implemented important projects in the country that include operating the first phase of South Aluminum Company with the production capacity of 300,000 tons of aluminum ingot that covers 40 percent of country's aluminum production," she noted.
She went on to say that agriculture, steel and chemical industries were other areas of investment while it is expected that new technologies and startups would attract foreign investment in the province.
