"Azerbaijan exported fresh persimmons worth $35 million from January through October 2020," Yusifov said.

"Some 50,000 tons of persimmons were exported for the reporting period," the head of the association said. "The export volume of fresh persimmons decreased by 24 percent from January through October 2020 compared to the same period of 2019."

"Persimmons were exported from Azerbaijan to the UAE in May 2020 for the first time this year," Yusifov said. "The income from export amounted to 100,000 manat ($58,823) in May 2020."

Yusifov stressed that persimmons are planned to be exported to Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and some European countries soon.

The Association of Persimmon Producers and Exporters was established in August 2017 on the initiative of entrepreneurs and with the support of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economy.

The main objectives of the Association are to increase the production of competitive and export-oriented products, as well as expand the number of countries to which persimmons are exported. The income from export in 2019 greatly exceeded the income as of 2018 reaching $114 million.
