Iran pins hopes on Swiss financial channel to purchase COVID-19 vaccines

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 27

Trend:

The head of the Iran-Switzerland Joint Chamber of Commerce Sharif Nezam Mafi said the flexibility of the Swiss Humanitarian financial channel should be increased through negotiations, in order to allow Iran to buy vaccines for COVID-19, Trend reports via ILNA.

Referring to release of part of the Iranian blocked money in South Korea through the Swiss humanitarian channel, Mafi said that this shows that the Swiss government's goal for the humanitarian channel has been met.

"It is possible that, as expected, this channel will be used to recover the Iranian blocked money amid Joe Biden winning the US president election,” he said.

"So this is the beginning, and we hope that the Swiss financial channel will be of more help to us," said Mafi.

Referring to the recent news of the Korean media on the $ 1 billion deposit to the Swiss channel, the head of the Iran-Switzerland Joint Chamber of Commerce said that "this was announced by the South Korean media and the Swiss government has not officially confirmed it yet.”

"Our priority should be to provide the coronavirus vaccine,” he said. “Since we cannot buy the US or the UK vaccines, we should look for other vaccines, including Russia's Sputnik V vaccine.”
