In general, 2,730 hectares of agricultural land in the Qazvin Province (western Iran) were equipped with a modern irrigation system during the 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through February 18, 2021), Director of the Agricultural Department of Qazvin Province Fatemeh Khamseh said, Trend reports citing the department’s website.

The director emphasized that so far, 95 plans have been implemented to equip the agricultural lands with modern irrigation systems.

“In addition, work is underway to equip 4,480 hectares of land with a modern irrigation system. There is 45 percent progress on this work,” she added.

Khamseh noted that it is also planned to implement 20 plans to equip 441 hectares of agricultural land with modern irrigation systems. About 80 billion rials (about $1.9 million) has been allocated for these plans.

The director said that with the implementation of plans related to the modern irrigation system, water loss in arable lands and orchards has decreased and productivity has increased.

As reported, about 4 million tons of agricultural products are grown annually in the Qazvin Province of Iran. This is about 4 percent of Iran's agricultural output.
