Georgia sees decrease in external merchandise trade

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar. 15

External Merchandise Trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $1.65 million from January through February 2021, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office reports (Geostat).

As reported, this is 12 percent lower year-on-year.

The value of export decreased by 6.8 percent reaching $494.7 million, while the import decreased by 14.1 percent and amounted to $1.15 billion.

The trade deficit equaled $664.6 million and its share in trade turnover constituted 40.2 percent.

In January 2021, the share of the top ten trading partners in the total external trade turnover of Georgia amounted to 76.3 percent. The top trading partners were China ($126.5 million), Turkey ($114.3 million), and Azerbaijan ($86.2 million).

In the reporting period, the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 80.8 percent. The top partners were Azerbaijan ($34.4 million), Bulgaria ($27 million), and China ($26.9 million).

In January 2021, the share of the top ten trading partners by imports in the total imports of Georgia amounted to 75.9 percent. The top partners were China ($99.6 million), Turkey ($92.9 million), and Russia ($55.6 million).
