TEHRAN, Iran, May 14
Trend:
Iran has sufficient technological knowledge to produce electric vehicles but so far there has not been enough motivation for manufacturing and sales, said the head of Transportation Office at the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade Soheil Memarbashi, Trend reports via IRNA.
"The component auto parts for electric vehicles are less in demand than of those with internal combustion engine, so it would be easier to manufacture them," he said.
"The main issue is the battery for electric vehicles, there is possibility to work on electric engine, electric platform and other fields, inside Iran" he pointed out.
Memarbashi also said that Iran could use the experience of other countries, as far as battery production is concerned.
"Our main issue in this field is the demand for electric cars. It means we should give the manufacturers necessary motivation to producers and customers as well," he said.
He went on to add that people in Iran wouldn't buy an electric car priced at 5 billion rials ($119,000), when they can purchase a domestically made 'Dena' for 3 billion rials (about $71,000).
