Iran exported $200 million worth of household appliances over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), Director General of the Power and Electronic Industries Department of the Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade Keyvan Gordan said, Trend reports citing the IRNA.
He made the remark at a conference of the Association of Industries of Household Appliances of Iran.
The director-general emphasized that Iran is planned to export 600 million worth of household appliances during the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).
“Of course, the increase in production is on the agenda due to the increase in exports of household appliances,” he added.
Gordan said that the working capital in Iran's household appliances sector is $6 billion. At present, 300,000 people work in this field and 500 production enterprises operate.
The director noted that however, more than 60 percent of Iran's household appliances market was owned by foreign brands 4-5 years ago.
As reported, Iran's total foreign trade turnover amounted to about 146 million tons worth $73 billion in the last Iranian year. During this period, Iran exported 112 million tons of goods worth about $35 billion and imported 33.4 million tons worth $38.4 billion.
The Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran plans to manufacture 1.2 million TVs, 1.9 million refrigerators, 1.05 million water conditioners and 1.08 million washing machines in the current Iranian year.
