Iran is planned to increase the export of dates from the Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran) by 5,000 tons in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), compared to the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), an official of Iran’s Khuzestan Province Agricultural Department Mohammad Hassani Nasab told IRIB, Trend reports.

Hassani Nasab stressed that it is planned to export a total of 85,000 tons of dates from the province this year.

The official noted that 235,000 tons of dates are expected to be harvested from 42,000 hectares of orchards in the province due to adequate irrigation.

“About 80 percent of dates grown in the province will be 1st grade, 13 percent – 2nd grade, and 7 percent – 3rd grade,” he added.

According to Hassani Nasab, 25,000 tons of dates will be consumed in the Khuzestan Province. The remaining 125,000 tons will be sent to other provinces and used in the processing industry.

The official said that a total of 232,000 tons of dates were grown in the province over the last Iranian year.
