Georgia sees increase in medicine prices following declining imports

The import of medicines to Georgia has decreased, but the price has increased, Trend reports with reference to the data of the National Statistical Office of Georgia (Geostat).

In particular, according to the National Statistical Office, if from January through July 2020 the country received only 179.5 tons of medicines in the amount of $188.5 million, then imports of 161.8 tons for the same period of this year amounted to $209.9 million.

Of these, 5.4 tons ($203.7 million) were packed and 156.5 tons ($6.2 million) were unpacked.

In terms of imports of packaged medicines from January through July 2021, the leaders were:

Turkey - $27.6 million
Germany - $24.6 million
Hungary - $19.6 million
France - $18.5 million
Ukraine - $10.7 million

As for the top 10 countries where bulk drugs come from, the list is as follows:

India - $1.6 million
China - $1.3 million
Latvia - $789,500
Ukraine - $707,400
Italy - $674,600.
