Iran seeks to expand trade and banking relations with Sri Lanka through providing effective export and import financing strategies and direct or indirect payment methods, the CBI governor said, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

The Governor of Central Bank of Iran Akbar Komijani conferred with Udaya Prabath Gammanpila, the visiting Sri Lankan energy minister.

Recalling the longstanding commercial relations between the two countries, Komijani welcomed the expansion of bilateral trade.

“The expansion of trade relations, as well as the settlement of financial disputes between the two countries on the basis of mutual understandings are on the agenda,” he said.

Komijani proposed the establishment of a working group of Sri Lankan experts, CBI experts and businessmen to explore ways to expand trade relations as well as debt settlement strategies.

The senior banker reiterated that the CBI and the banking network are ready to help develop payment mechanisms to support bilateral trade.
