TEHRAN, Iran. Nov.3
Trend:
Iran is working to increase production in the fishery sector, said head of Iran Fisheries Organization Nabiollah Khon Mirzaei, Trend reports citing ILNA.
He said the production currently stands at 1.2 million tons and should double thanks to a new plan to be implemented.
The mentioned plan was provided by Iran's Ministry of Agriculture to the parliament. Meanwhile, the Iran Fisheries Organization is preparing necessary infrastructure for breeding shrimp and fish farming.
While the country is increasing production, Iran's average fish consumption per capita has declined to 13.4 kilos.
The government looks to provide funds to boost fish farming and raise the production to 600,000 tons by the end of the current Iranian year.
Shrimp production is predicted to reach 100,000 tons in 2022 and consequently to more than 130,000 tons in 2025.
