Iran increases import of essential goods

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov.3

Iran is increasing import of basic commodities including rice, sugar, vegetable oils, barley and medicine, and chemical fertilizer, said Deputy Head of Customs Administration of Iran, Trend reports citing Fars News Agency.

Statistics from the Ports and Maritime Organization indicate more than 14.3 million tons of essential goods valued at $8.8 billion imported to the country during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2021), Mehrdad Arvanghi noted.

The country's total imports in this period had a 25 percent increase in volume and a 95 percent increase in value compared to the same time in the last Iranian year (started March 20, 2020).

Iran imported 2.275 million tons of rice, raw sugar, heavy tire, machinery, and medicine for livestock, chemical pesticides, and fertilizers with a total value of $2.2 billion in this period that had 6 percent growth compared to last year.

Iran has imported more than 737,000 tons of rice in the first seven months of the current Iranian year that had a 27 percent increase while the import of sugar was 81.930 tons with a 5 percent decline. Imported heavy tires had increased 48 percent while import of chemical fertilizers had 34 percent decline.

Import of vegetable oils and barley had 170 percent and 91 percent increase while import of wheat and medicine have 15 percent and 3 percent growth.
