Iran boost exports via Bilasuvar border checkpoint

Iran’s exports through the Bilasuvar border checkpoint in the Ardabil Province (north-western Iran) increased by 61 percent in terms of volume, during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through January 20, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director General of the Road and Transport Department of Iran’s Ardabil Province, Kalimollah Vosughi said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

According to Vosughi, over 405,000 tons of goods were exported through the Bilasuvar border checkpoint in 10 months.

"The main exported goods were various foodstuff and construction materials, of which were mainly exported to Azerbaijan, Russia, Georgia and etc.," he said.

The director general also added that 356,000 tons of Iranian goods were exported by 15,810 Iranian trucks, while 49,000 tons - by 2,363 trucks from Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and Poland.

Moreover, 391,000 tons of goods were transited by 17,729 trucks through the Bilasuvar border checkpoint in 10 months, which is an increase of 153 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year, Vosughi noted.

The official stressed that the transited goods were mainly mineral water, various car tires, clothing, passenger cars, construction materials and etc.

"In total, 1 million tons of goods were exported, imported and transited through the Bilasuvar border checkpoint," he said.

Vosughi also pointed out that over 10 months, about 85,000 people crossed the Bilasuvar border checkpoint to Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan and vice versa.
