Iran's Sefid-Dasht Steel Company sees surge in sponge iron production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 23

The sponge iron production of Sefid Dasht Steel Company in the Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province (south-western Iran), increased by 1.1 percent, during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through February 19, 2022), compared to the company’s production plan, said CEO of the company Mahmoud Arbabzadeh, Trend reports citing Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO).

Arbabzadeh noted that the company produced 738,000 tons of sponge iron in 11 months. Meanwhile, in the company’s production plan for the reporting period, the figure stood at 730,000 tons.

The CEO added that there is 91-percent physical progress in the construction of the company’s steel plant. Recently, the plant's equipment has been imported and installed. The plant will be ready for operation in the near future.

The shares of Sefid Dasht Steel Company are owned by Mobarakeh Steel Company (65 percent) and Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization, known as IMIDRO (35 percent).

The company currently employs 650 people. It is planned to employ 280 more people in the near future.

The company is building a plant that will produce 1 million tons of steel a year.
