Iran unveils details of dry tea exports/imports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 13. The volume of Iran’s dry tea exports increased by 77 percent during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year, the Chairman of the Iran Tea Organization, Habib Jahansaz told Trend.

The chairman noted that Iran exported 13,000 tons of dry tea within the mentioned period.

According to Jahansaz, Iran’s tea was mainly exported to the UAE, Russia, Türkiye, Iraq, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.

“In addition, Iran imported 36,000 tons of dry tea worth $194 million in 5 months, which is an increase of 42 percent in volume compared to the same period last Iranian year,” he said.

The official also pointed out that Iran imports an average of 65,000 tons of tea per year.

Jahansaz added that Iran produced a total of 21,000 tons of dry tea since beginning of the current tea harvesting season (started on April 21, 2022), in the country, which is a decrease of 20 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Jahansaz stressed that an average of 100,000 tons of tea are consumed annually in the country.
