BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 26. In total, about 8.8 million tons of tropical fruits were cultivated in Iran, during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through January 20, 2023), Director-General of Iran’s Agriculture Ministry’s Tropical and Subtropical Fruit Bureau Zahra Jalili Moqaddam told IANA, Trend reports.
The director general noted that the mentioned volume of tropical fruits was grown on more than 730,000 hectares of land.
Commenting on the cultivation of citrus fruits in the country, Jalili Moqaddam said that 3.45 million tons of oranges were cultivated in the country within 10 months. This is an increase of 50 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year, she added.
“In addition, 1.4 million tons of dates were cultivated in the country over 10 months, the official said.
According to Jalili Moqaddam, 650,000 tons of subtropical fruits were exported from the country in 10 months, which is 18 percent more than the same period last Iranian year.
In general, there are nearly 3 million hectares of orchards in Iran. On average, 25 million tons of fruit are grown per year.
