BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 24. The volume of red meat produced in Iran decreased by 26 percent, during the 5th month of the last Iranian year (July 23 through August 22, 2023), compared with the same month last Iranian year, Trend reports.
In total, 41,073 tons of red meat were produced in Iran during the 5th month, whereas in the same month previous year, the figure stood at 55,605 tons, according to the data of the Statistical Center of Iran (SCI).
So, 22,198 tons of beef and veal were produced within the country for the reporting month, which is a decrease of 19 percent compared to 27,295 tons in the same month last year.
Also, 14,771 tons of lamb and mutton were produced in Iran for the 5th month. This is a decrease of 38 percent compared to 23,983 tons in the same time previous year.
Within the 5th month, 3,064 tons of goat meat were produced countrywide, which is a decrease of 10 percent compared to 3,403 tons in the same month last year.
In addition, 448 tons of buffalo and 592 tons of camel meat were produced in Iran in the 5th month, which is a decrease of 27 percent, and an increase of 93 percent, respectively, compared to the same month in previous year.
According to the statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture of Jihad Iran, the country produces an average of 1.2 million tons of red meat per year.
Currently, the price of 1 kg of mutton is around 3-5.5 million rials (about $71-$131), and 1 kg of beef and veal meat is around 3.8-5.6 million rials (about $90-$133).
