The Azerbaijani government and the United States are expected to sign an agreement on Mutual assistance and cooperation in customs issues, Aydin Aliyev, the chairman of the State Customs Committee (SCC) said on 5 May in a meeting with Frank Mermood, an adviser on economic issues of the US Secretary of State, Trend reports.
The document was prepared for signing. The head of the SCC assured that the document would promote closer cooperation between the two countries.
Aliyev voiced his satisfaction with the visit of the SCCs delegation to the United States late 2005 and noted its importance for the development of cooperation between
the customs bodies of the two countries. He also voiced his hope in the increase of goods turnover between Azerbaijan and the United States in the near future and importance of utilization of the existing potential in this direction.
Mermood stated that the US government attaches great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan as a strategic partner and noted the recent visit of Azerbaijani President to the United States would give an impetus to the upgrade of existing bilateral relationships.
The meeting also mulled issues of interests of two countries.
