A transport mission of the World Bank (WB) headed by Olivier Le Ber, a WB Specialist on Road Infrastructure is expected to pay a week visit to Baku on November 6. The main aim of the forthcoming visit is to review the implementation of the existing projects in the field of reconstruction of highways - the highways` sections - Ganja-Gazakh, Baku-Shamakhy Mughan and Alyat-Masalli, WB`s Baku Office told Trend.

The implementation of the project on the section Ganja (Shamkir) Gazakh with the length of 94 km will be completed in 2007. With the project's total value of $48 m., WB granted a credit worth of $40 on the conditions of International Development Association that was aimed at building a dual-highway. The financing of the project is also carried out at the expense of a TACIS grant worth of $1.5 m., and the share of the Azerbaijani Government - $6.5 m. The subcontractors of the project are Turan Xazinadaroghlu, Azerkorpu Рё Autobahn.

The other two sections have been united to the single project. It stipulates widening and changing the rout of the highway Alyat-Masalli that will cause reducing the highway from 230 km to 200 km, as well as repair works on the highway Baku-Shamakhy-Mughan that links

the capital with the western regions of the country.

WB has granted a credit worth of $200 m for their reconstruction. The deficient funds on these two projects might be granted within the second credit. An issue on granting these funds, as well as other aspects on the highways` reconstruction are expected to be discussed with the Bank`s mission during its forthcoming visit to Azerbaijan.

The spending of the credit's means will begin till the end of 2006. At present, the determination of a consultant on the project on construction of the section Baku-Shamakhy-Mughan is underway. Finland's consulting company Finroad Ltd. have already become the consultant of the project on construction of the section Alyat-Masalli.
