On 16-17 November, an international scientific-practical conference Improvement of co-operation of CIS member-countries in the activities against contemporary threats for security took place in Saint-Petersburg.
Azerbaijan was represented at the event by the Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan (SCC), Major-General Asker Abdullayev, Trend reports quoting the SCC.
The conference was opened by the Chairman of the CIS Council of Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and the Federation Council of the Federal Parliament of Russian Federation, Sergey Mirinov. At the time of the first plenary session, reports were delivered by the Executive Secretary of CIS, Vladimir Rushaylo, Director of Federal Security Service of Russia, Sergey Smirnov and Deputy Prosecutor General of Russia, Eugenie Zabarchuk.
During the sectional meetings, the heads of the parliaments, ministries and state bodies, as well as representatives of the CIS member-countries and employees of the international organizations exchanged views on the co-operation in combating contemporary threats for the security.
The first sectional meeting of the conference was dedicated to the topic Improvement of co-operation of CIS member-countries in its fight against organized criminality and corruption.
During the discussion of this topic, it was stated that an Interstate Program has been confirmed and is implemented on the measures regarding joint fight against criminality in 2005-2007.
The second sectional meeting of the conference was dedicated to Improvement of co-operation of CIS member-countries in fight against terrorism and its financing.
During the discussions, the participants spoke about the creation of a model legislative base in the fight against terrorism and criminality, and confirmation and implementation of the Co-operation Program of CIS member-states fight against terrorism and other extremisms and violence.
The third sectional meeting focused on the topic Improvement of co-operation of CIS member-countries in fight against illegal turnover of narcotics.
The participants of the meeting heard reports regarding drug business and its impact on national security, illegal transit of narcotics, international co-operation of the special services and law-enforcement bodies of CIS member-states in its fight against the illegal turnover of the narcotics, etc. The participants of the conference offered to work out a new Interstate Program to fight against criminality, international terrorism and illegal turnover of narcotics over the period of 2008-2010.
