(autoinsidernews) - Spy photographers caught Dodge's new crossover vehicle that will take on the Ford Edge, Toyota Highlander, Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia, and the rest of the ever-growing crossover segment. Known internally as the JC49″, the new crossover rides on the same platform as the Chrysler Sebring/Dodge Avenger. However, the crossover is larger than its car siblings, reports Trend.
While quite well camouflaged, some standard Dodge styling cues are visible, including the cross-hair grille design which is more raked back than normal, the stacked headlamps borrowing styling cues from the Nitro, and the clean bodyside feature a broad shoulder line.
The new crossover is expected to begin production in early 2008, with a starting price as low as $20,000, which would overlap with a fully optioned Caliber. A Chrysler version could arrive by 2010.
