Metal content of Azerbaijani Coins May Be Revised

Azerbaijan , Baku /corr Trend I, Khalilova / The National Bank of Azerbaijan (NBA) does not rule out possible changes in the metal content of coins being made. Elman Rustamov, Chairman of the NBA Managing Board, stated that such a necessity has arisen due to a change of color in the metal caused through dampness.

"Taking this situation into consideration, the metal content of coins in Azerbaijan will be revised. The coins are made of copper and become tainted in damp weather conditions. However, the banknotes do meet premium standards," Rusmatov noted.

A new consignment of new banknotes will be supplied in the near future. The total amount of the order is AZN 1.7 bln taking into consideration the reserves for 3 years. Some 94% of all money reserves comprises of banknotes (1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 manats) and 6% of coins (1, 3, 5, 10, 20 and 50 gepiks).
