Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 25 / Trend /

Turkmenistan has never politicized the issues of energy cooperation. It follows the principle of mutual benefit, economic and commercial feasibility, official representative of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry Serdar Durdiyev said on Monday at a news briefing, RIA Novosti reported.

Commenting on the key aspects of the Turkmen policy in the sphere of international energy cooperation, he stressed that Turkmenistan, selling energy resources to partners, does not link this role with participation in any international energy projects or sales of energy resources beyond its limits.

Turkmenistan is convinced that any pipeline project, in case of its economic and commercial benefits, has the right to exist, he said. This is a principled position of Turkmenistan based on a vision of modern processes and the objective needs of global development.

Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world on gas reserves after Russia, Iran and Qatar. About 80 billion cubic meters of gas were extracted in the pre-crisis years, of which 50 billion was bought by Russia's Gazprom. At present, Russian gas purchases fell up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas. Turkmenistan also supplies natural gas to China and Iran.
