Turkmen law on pipelines to ensure country's integration into int’l energy network

The law on the "Main pipeline" is included in the regulations that have been recently adopted at the nineteenth meeting of the Turkmen Parliament, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper said.

According to the report, the new law will ensure the conditions for the country's great economic integration into a single international energy network.

The law determines the competence of public authoritative bodies, other authorized bodies in the trunk pipeline to strengthen the country's role in ensuring the effective functioning of the main pipeline, the newspaper said.

According to the newspaper, the first chapter of the law regulates the basic principles in the field of the main pipeline.

These are the safety priorities of the population and the state, protection of the environment, ensuring the state regulation, using the latest technologies and equipment while pipeline design, construction, reconstruction and exploitation.

The law determines the mandatory licensing of certain activities of trunk pipeline organizations, which will create the conditions for safe use of licensed facilities.

Moreover, the law reflects the issues of land use - removing, transferring, using, possessing and seizing the land intended for the construction and exploitation of these systems.
Turkmenistan is one of the key players in the gas market in the Caspian region and Central Asia. At present, China, Iran and Russia use Turkmen gas. An additional gas pipeline to Russia, Europe and India is among the projects which are being discussed now.
