A top oil official says that doubling Iran's crude oil export require 17 super tankers (VLCC).

"In order to double crude oil exports the country will need 17 VLCCs every month," Shana quoted Nasrollah Sardashti, the commercial director at the National Iranian Tanker Company August 18.

Sardashti further explained that Iran intends to restore its exports to the level of 2.5 million barrels per day immediately after sanctions are lifted and thus, the country would need more tankers involved.

Iran's tanker fleet is capable of transporting 76 millions barrels of crude oil to world markets, however, according to a report released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Iran has stored about 30 million barrels of unsold oil in its tankers.

Iran currently exports a little more than 1.1 million barrels of crude oil per day, but the country aimed at adding further 500,000 barrels per day to this volume as soon as the sanctions be eliminated.

Iran and P5+1 reached a nuclear deal on July 14 and the sanctions are expected to be lifted by the end of 2015.

Iran has also announced that the country will resume the oil export to pre-sanctions level in six months after the lifting of sanctions.
