The modernization of the Azerbaijani floating semi-submersible drilling rig Istiglal has been completed, a source on the country's oil and gas market told Trend May 31.
The repair was launched in July 2015 at the Caspian Shipyard in Baku.
The source said also that all maintenance works have been completed successfully, and testing has been conducted successfully.
"The drilling rig is fully ready for operation," said the source adding that the platform will return to work on the Shah Deniz field after technical tests.
The Istiglal rig is used for the operation in the Azerbaijani gas and condensate field Shah Deniz.
Caspian Drilling Company (CDC, 92.44 percent of the equity is owned by the Azerbaijani State Oil Company (SOCAR) is the operator of the Istiglal drilling rig.
