Gasoline price falls in Georgia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 20

By Tamilla Mammadova - Trend:

Gasoline fell in price in Georgia, but demand for it almost halved, said Chairman of the Union of Petroleum Importers of Georgia Vano Mtvralashvili, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

According to him, in March, the price of gasoline was 35 tetri (11 cents) cheaper than in February.

"The whole world has reduced the consumption of petroleum products due to coronavirus. There is an emergency in the country and quarantine regime in some areas, economic activity is limited, tourism sector is not operating and internal movements have decreased. All this led to a decline in fuel consumption by about 40 percent," said Mtvralashvili.

According to him, in April, these figures may be even higher, and this is an inevitable blow to business.

“Meanwhile, companies did not reduce operating expenses. Staff members were not allowed to take unpaid leave, salaries were not reduced, and other operating expenses were not cut. Against this background, companies face big problems. After all, sales fell by almost two, but the obligations remained the same," Mtvralashvili said.

To date, in the networks of branded petrol stations, the average price for super gasoline is 2.48-2.57 lari (79-82 cents) per liter, for premium - 2.33-2.43 lari (74-77 cents) per liter, for regular - 2.17-2.33 lari per liter (69-74 cents), and for Euro diesel - 2.31-2.40 lari (74-76 cents) per liter.
