TEHRAN, Iran, Sep. 29
Trend:
Iran power distribution companies are obtaining financial aid to purchase electricity at energy exchange, the Managing Director of Iran Energy Exchange (IRENEX) told Trend in an interview.
Private and public power plants are selling electricity to distribution companies at IRENEX, Ali Naghavi noted.
Iran's Power Generation, Distribution, and Transmission Company (Tavanir) has assigned financial aid to power distribution companies to purchase electricity from energy exchange, however, the figure was insignificant.
Tavanir has so far assigned 500 billion rials (about $11 million) to power distribution companies to purchase electricity.
Iran Energy Exchange has traded a total of 500 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) valued at 3.5 trillion rials (about $84 million) from March 21 to September 22 this year.
Iran's Power Generation, Distribution, and Transmission Company have prevented financial aid to power distribution companies since 2018 which held them from purchasing electricity from energy exchange.
Iran plans to increase production and the Thermal Power Plant Holding (TPPH) is to construct 10 new steam units with a total capacity of 1,752 megawatts (MW) in the country’s combined cycle power plants by the summer of 2022.
