BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 11. The total electricity generation in Azerbaijan declined in March 2022, Trend reports via the country’s Energy Ministry.

According to the ministry, this figure amounted to 2.3 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), down by 57.1 million kWh (2.4 percent) on annual basis.

Besides, Azerbaijan decreased import of electricity in March this year by 1.1 million kWh compared to the same month of 2021, to 10 million kilowatt-hours.

At the same time, Azerbaijan’s electricity export also reduced, by 154.1 million kWh year on year, standing at 19 million kWh.

The electricity generation by the power plants of Azerbaijan’s Azerenergy OJSC amounted to about 6.5 billion kWh in the first quarter of 2022 (growth of 275.5 million kWh or 4.4 percent year on year), including thermal power plants - 6.2 billion kWh, and hydroelectric power stations - 239.6 million kWh.

Meanwhile, the power plants of the State Energy Service of Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic generated 81.56 million kWh (thermal power plants – 58.2 million kilowatt-hours, hydroelectric power plants – 11.7 million kWh, and solar power plants – 11.6 million kWh), autonomous power plants - over 565.84 million kWh, and wind power plants of Azerishig OJSC – 14.1 million kWh of electricity.

Besides, Azerbaijan exported 508.4 million kWh of electricity from January through March 2022, up by 1.4 million kWh on annual basis.

The country's import of electricity in the reporting period amounted to 30.7 million kilowatt per hour, which is 1.5 million kilowatt-hours less than the same period in 2021.

Electricity generation in Azerbaijan exceeded 7.1 billion kilowatt per hour from January through March 2022, which is 3.9 percent or 269.2 million kilowatt per hour more than the same period in 2021.

More than 27.8 billion kWh of electricity were generated in Azerbaijan by all types of power plants in 2021, while electricity consumption exceeded 23.4 billion kWh.
