Deposits dollarization level down in Kazakhstan

The volume of deposits in Kazakhstan’s deposit organizations amounted to 19.6 trillion tenge ($48.7 billion) in May 2020, which is 0.1 percent more compared to Apr. 2020, Trend reports with reference to the data of Kazakhstan’s National Bank.

Deposits of legal persons decreased in value by 0.9 percent to 10.02 trillion tenge ($24.8 billion), whereas deposits of physical persons dropped by 0.7 percent to 9.6 trillion tenge ($23.8 billion).

In turn, value of deposits denominated in national currency (tenge) increased by 4.1 percent in a month to 11.5 trillion tenge ($28.6 billion), whereas value of deposits denominated in foreign currency decreased by 5.2 percent to 8.08 trillion tenge ($20.02 billion).

Dollarization level amounted to 41.1 percent as of the end of May 2020 compared to 43.1 percent as of the end of Dec. 2019.

Tenge denominated deposits of legal entities increased by 6.5 percent in May 2020 having amounted to 6.01 trillion tenge ($14.9 billion), whereas foreign currency denominated deposits of legal entities decreased by 6.4 percent to 4 trillion tenge ($9.9 billion).

Meanwhile, tenge denominated deposits of physical entities increased by 1.8 percent to 5.5 trillion tenge ($13.7 billion), whereas foreign currency denominated deposits of physical entities decreased by 3.9 percent to 4.08 trillion tenge ($10.1 billion).

Value of time deposits amounted to 13.5 trillion tenge ($33.6 billion), having increased by 2.4 percent in May 2020 compared to Apr. 2020.

Value of tenge denominated time deposits amounted to 7.9 trillion tenge ($19.6 billion), whereas foreign currency denominated time deposits amounted to 5.6 trillion tenge ($13.9 billion).

Weighted average remuneration rate on time deposits of non-bank legal entities in tenge amounted to 7.6 percent in May 2020 compared to 7.2 percent in May 2019, whereas weighted average remuneration rate on deposits of physical entities was 10.3 percent compared to 9.3 percent in May 2019.
