Iran's CBI discloses number of exchanged checks

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 11

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

About 8 million checks worth 1.9 quadrillion rials (about $45.2 billion) were exchanged in Iran in the 8th month of the current Iranian year (October 22 through November 20, 2020), Trend reports citing the Central Bank of Iran.

According to the statistics, the exchanged checks decreased by 9.4 percent in terms of number and by 12.4 percent in terms of value compared to the 7th month of current Iranian year (September 22 through October 21, 2020).

"The checks exchanged in the 8th month were mainly registered in Iran’s Tehran Province (29.1 percent in terms of number, 47.9 percent in terms of value), Isfahan Province (10.5 percent in terms of number, 9.6 percent in terms of value), Razavi Khorasan Province (8.2 in terms of number) and Mazandaran Province (7.8 percent in terms of number, 6.1 percent in terms of value)," the statistics said.

According to the statistics, 7.3 million checks worth 1.68 quadrillion rials (about $40 billion) were received in Iran in the eighth month. This is a decrease of 14.1 percent in terms of number and an increase of 9.6 percent in terms of value compared to the seventh month.

The CBI noted that about 681,000 checks worth 221 trillion rials (about $5.26 billion) were returned in the 8th month.

The returned checks decreased by 7.2 percent in terms of number and increased by 3.1 percent in terms of value compared to the 7th month.

The reason for the return of checks is the lack of available funds or a deficit. Thus, 655,000 checks worth 210 trillion rials (about $5 billion) were returned in Iran for these reasons.

"The checks 96.2 percent in terms of number and 95.2 percent in terms of value were returned due to lack of available funds or deficit," the statistics said.
