BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 23. Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry issued the first open tender on April 23 for the design, finance, construction, and operation of a 100 MW solar power plant (SPP) near Gobustan on the Absheron peninsula, and the winner will be chosen by November 2024, an informed source told Trend.
"Today, the first stage of the tender was released to find the most qualified bidders in the country's first auction for renewable energy sources (RES). At the end of the summer, a second phase of the tender will be held to identify the winner to build the 100 MW SES project in Gobustan on a turnkey basis by November 2024," the source said.
He did not rule out that the contract with the winner may be concluded within the framework of the COP29 events to be held in Baku on November 11–24.
On April 23, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Energy appealed to companies interested in participating in the auction for the construction of a 100 MW power plant in Gobustan to request qualification documents from the Agency for Renewable Energy Sources (AREA) under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy as early as April 30.
The e-mail should include the name of the company requesting the
qualification document, the country of origin, the name, surname,
position, e-mail address, and phone number of the corporate
representative. Starting May 7, 2024, the qualifying document will
be submitted to the applying companies.
After receiving the qualification document, bidders must submit
this information to the relevant authority in duplicate by June 14,
2024.
The period for assessing eligibility for specialization and
qualification will finish on July 12, 2024.
The state promises that it will acquire power generated by the SES
in accordance with the Republic of Azerbaijan Law "On the Use of
Renewable Energy Sources in Electricity Generation."
To note, Azerbaijan's goal is to achieve a share of renewable energy sources in the energy balance of more than 30 percent by 2030.
Presently, renewables in Azerbaijan generate eight percent of all electricity.
