BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 17. Baku's Garadagh district is one of the areas with green energy potential.
Trend studied the “green” energy potential of the Garadagh district.
This district is one of the sunniest in Azerbaijan. The solar energy potential is high here, which creates favorable conditions for the installation of solar panels. Electricity generation using solar energy can be environmentally useful and economically profitable.
Garadagh solar power plant (SPP) located here is one of the largest in the Caspian region and in the CIS. This project was developed and implemented by Masdar Company of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The capacity of the plant is 230 MW. It was built at the expense of foreign investments amounting to $262 million. This is the first industrial-scale solar power plant in Azerbaijan implemented with foreign investment. The station will save 110 million cubic meters of natural gas, producing 500 million kWh of electricity annually. At the same time, carbon emissions will be reduced by 200,000 tons. The 550-ha power plant has 570,000 solar panels. A 330-kilovolt substation was built to connect this plant to the grid.
Garadagh district has a partly windy climate. There is potential for installing wind turbines. Wind energy can be used to produce electricity, which can help to meet the energy needs of the region. Furthermore, the Garadagh region is engaged in agriculture, which creates good conditions for biomass energy production. Agricultural residues and other organic waste can be utilized for energy production.
It is important to accurately assess the green energy potential of the region and conduct research on different energy sources. These measures can help to increase the green energy potential of the Garadagh region and ensure the energy security of the region.
